"Once you learn to read, you will be forever free." - Frederick Douglass. Many youths do not understand the value of this quote. Many young people have lost interest in reading and don't see any sense in reading. Technology especially social media sites and gaming has taken up crucial time for them to read. The following are five reasons why the youth should read:
1. Memory improvement: According to edarabia.com, a good practice to improve child memory is by reading a book.
2. To be an expert in a certain field: reading help teens to become an expert in the area of interest. For example, a young person interested in Finance can become an expert in that area by reading what others have published.
3. Boost self-esteem: Young people who read have confidence compared to their peers who are poor readers. For instance, in a discussion, a poor reader will feel isolated and hence won't participate.
4. Enhances creativity: when we read we create a mental picture and boost critical thinking. They are also able to discover new interests and liking.
5. Learn about the world: Reading helps young people to see the world from a new perspective. Through reading, young people can discover the world by learning about people, places, and major happening. For instance, when young people read they are able to know who is the richest person in the world.
There is great value in reading apart from the above others like entertainment, improving concentration and performance at school. We should therefore encourage everyone to read.
